Career Path Exploration: What to Expect

Part of being an intern is making connections with professionals who will offer guidance on potential career options and next steps after graduation. Conversations with practitioners about their first jobs out of school can be very valuable, giving you a chance to hear how they got started and how their paths have evolved with more experience. The ASID Virtual Internship offers you the opportunity to have these conversations with mid-career designers, the 2020 ASID Ones to Watch Scholars. Each of the eight Scholars has recorded their career story, with a particular focus on their first job out of school.

Core Content

Effective Listening to Increase Team Productivity and Collaboration

Communication is critical to any relationship and the most fundamental of all the soft skills. It is the most important of the six key indicators of highly functioning teams. Learn how to be a more effective listener and enhance your leadership skills in the areas of communication, productivity, collaboration, accountability, and performance.

Feedback/Feedforward: Why Feedback Alone Doesn’t Work & What To Do About It

Feedback alone doesn’t work. Research tells us that about one-third of the time feedback leads to momentary performance improvement; one-third of the time it results in nothing; and in one-third of cases, leads to worsening performance. Learn more effective strategies for giving and receiving feedback, and enhance your leadership skills in the areas of communication, productivity, collaboration, accountability, and performance.

Effective Accountability: The Science of Human Performance

Avoiding conflict and creating a culture where being liked is more important than being respected can lead to lack of accountability in a team. As a result, staff produce low-quality work, miss deadlines, and engage in passive-aggressive conflict, causing team productivity to plummet. Learn how to create a culture of accountability in your organization, and enhance your leadership skills in the areas of communication, productivity, collaboration, accountability, and performance.

Do This, Not That
