    Dr. Dawn Haynie offers a distinctive, interdisciplinary approach to design. She has extensive experience as a researcher, practitioner, and educator across the disciplines of urban design, architecture, interiors, and graphic design. Her work combines research-based strategies with the lessons learned though her years of professional practice to enhance the spatial experience. She is a Research Fellow for the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), managing both their internal and external research on the interior design industry. Before founding Detailed Designs, a R&D consulting firm, she was a senior level designer at ASD | SKY, managing multiple teams to support some of the largest legal and accounting firms in the country. In her practice, she has worked collaboratively to design and implement both new and repositioned projects across different markets – workplace, healthcare, hospitality, and more recently, single-family residential. She is an adjunct professor at Georgia State University, teaching both undergraduate and graduate students. She enjoys sharing her interdisciplinary approach with students and finds joy in seeing students explore new ideas, test established boundaries, and become more critical, creative, and collaborative. Dr. Haynie has a Ph.D. in Architecture, Culture, & Behavior from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Architecture from Auburn University.

    Khoi Vo, ASID, IIDA, CIDA, IDEC, IDECF brings more than 20 years of experience across the worlds of interior design, architecture, and education. Most recently a leader at the renowned Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). Vo has touched the design world for nearly two decades as both a designer and an educator. In 2002, he founded Studio Four Los Angeles, where he worked as the design director and designed and sold architectural products. He later founded Khoi Vo Design and operated as the studio’s design director for 12 years and oversaw all phases of the firm’s projects. Vo began his career at California State University as an assistant professor for the interior design program. He later became a professor at SCAD’s department of interior design and later served as Chair. After a stint at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Vo returned to SCAD to head its former Hong Kong campus and then served as the institution’s vice president for industry relations. Vo is a distinguished member of various industry organizations. He currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Interior Design Educator Council Foundation and was previously an ASID board member from 2017-2019. He has also served as Site Visitor and Co-Chair for the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA), and as a member of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) and Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC) for more than a decade. Vo earned a Bachelor of Arts with a design focus in architecture from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Fl. He later received a Master of Architecture from the Southern California Institute of Architecture in Los Angeles.

    Description

    Benefit from research exploring older adults’ perceptions and attitudes toward currently available interior design features and assistive technologies that support active living at home. You will learn about assistive technology solutions to support four active living categories: housekeeping; environmental controls; safety and security; and environmental adaptations, in addition to comprehensive smart home/home automation systems. In addition, receive hands-on guidance in applying accessible online tools in your research on assistive technology design solutions. This course presents an overview and findings from a study conducted by Virginia Tech, funded by the ASID Foundation Transform Grant. 


    What You Will Learn
    • Identify currently available design and ambient assistive technologies that can support active living in residential environments of older adults 
    • Recognize which design features and/or assistive technologies may be more appropriate for different older adult populations based on income or ability level 
    • Describe how research studying policy and design process decisions can apply to the larger design community. 
    • Utilize the interactive data visualizations to make informed design decisions on home-based technologies.

    Elif Tural, Ph.D., WELL AP, LEED Green Assoc. is an Assistant Professor of Interior Design in Virginia Tech’s School of Architecture + Design. Dr. Tural received her Ph.D. in Environmental Design and Planning from Arizona State University. Her multidisciplinary design education includes an MFA in Interior Architecture, and a B.Arch. Her research interests include design factors for health and active living with a focus on senior residential environments and lighting design. As the 2017 Edison Price Fellow of the Nuckolls Fund, Dr. Tural worked at Oculus Lighting Studio, a Los Angeles-based architectural lighting design firm to enhance her research and teaching in the field of lighting design. She holds WELL AP and LEED credentials, and is a member of EDRA, IDEC, and IESNA.

Prior to becoming an educator, Gisele held positions with commercial design firms that focused on healthcare, retail, showroom, and corporate projects. Shane Jones has worked for over seven years as a designer account executive at Sherwin-Williams Paint, serving the North Carolina design community. A graduate of UNC Greensboro with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Architecture, Shane is responsible for educating the residential market including interior designers, architects, and design students about color and product resources at Sherwin-Williams. Shane’s goal is to engage and inspire designers. Shane is Past President 2018/19 of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) Carolinas Chapter. Soukup, Esq., leads the Society's strategic efforts to advocate for the interior design profession from a legislative, regulatory, and policy perspective before the federal and state governments. He is the Society's sole registered federal lobbyist and chief advocate at the state and local levels. Prior to joining ASID in summer 2018, Bryan served as Director of Resilience Initiatives and as a registered federal and state lobbyist for the International Code Council (ICC).  He is a licensed attorney in the District of Columbia and in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

    As Chair of the ASID National Advocate by Design Council, and the Policy, Codes & Standards Committee, Tracey Fillmore, NCIDQ, ASID, CAPS, Green AP, RID (FL) leads a team of highly skilled interior design practitioners to advocate for the interior design profession on many fronts. The Council is tasked with representing the profession in policy, codes, and standards development forums (ICC, NFPA, BIFMA, USGBC, and many others); submission of proposals and recommendations to federal, state, and local governments and agencies; evaluation and revision of the ASID Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct; member and industry outreach and engagement; and review and expert input regarding design education. In this role, Tracey is also ASID’s member representative to a variety of national and international code, standards, education, and professional ethics entities.  

    Prior to becoming an ASID Professional Interior Designer, Tracey was a fire safety inspector in her home state of Florida. That experience provided Tracey with great opportunities to utilize her codes knowledge and skills to design in many different types of buildings and occupancy types. She currently serves as a Senior Facilities Designer for a large healthcare organization in Florida.

    Benjamin trained in England, obtaining a BA Hons from Kingston University. After several years working at a London boutique architectural firm, he became the youngest associate in the firm’s history. In 1987 he moved to New York and founded his own interior design studio. In the 34 years since founding his studio, Benjamin has fully renovated a great variety of properties for his clients, including Hamptons houses, a 15-bedroom ski chateau, brownstones, numerous Manhattan apartments, and an art gallery. Benjamin has also trained and taught at a wide variety of Feng Shui Schools, developing and practicing his unique style of Feng Shui. Benjamin has a long history of volunteering within the New York interior design community in a wide variety of roles with ASID and Interior Designers for Legislation in NY (IDLNY). In addition, he co-chaired the CIDQ Committee that developed the NCIDQ Ambassador program. As former president of the ASID Metro New York Chapter (2020-21), he now serves as an advisor on the FY22 Chapter Support Team and is the chair of the Ethics & Professional Responsibility Committee of the ASID Advocate by Design Council.

Her experience with non-profit organizations ranges from committee work and volunteering to leading a national board of trustees.     ASID Education has established the self-reporting CEU approval process for ASID members to submit information about courses taken to determine eligibility towards meeting the member CEU requirement.

    There is a $25 processing fee charged per course to review your submission(s). 
    Review the complete guidelines carefully before proceeding: 

    STOP! Do not submit the form if your course is already approved by any of the following organizations. You may self-report to IDCEC without prior approval.

    GO! Use this self-reporting CEU submission form when either of the following apply: 
    • Course taken at an accredited college or university 
    • Course offered or approved by any other provider not listed above 

    What we don’t accept 

    ASID follows the IDCEC guidelines to determine CEU eligibility. The following types of activities are typically not approved by ASID Education: 

    • Sales presentations by manufacturers/vendors  
    • Proprietary product-oriented material and promotion of products or services, including factory tours. Any courses from manufacturers must be generic and not specific to their product line. 
    • Credentialing exam preparation courses such as those for NCIDQ, LEED or WELL. 
    • Trips or tours to places of interest, except for educational lectures provided at museums or other cultural institutions which are led by qualified instructors and directly relate to design. Self-guided tours are not accepted. 

    Note: You cannot receive credit again for a course you completed previously.

    • There is a $25 processing fee charged per course to review your submission(s). This fee is non-refundable regardless of whether your CEU is approved or declined. 
    • Click on the Register button in the top right to pay the $25 processing fee. You will then have access to the form, along with instructions on how to submit.

    Ariel Cox, Allied ASID, CAPS, serves as the Director of Marketing + Interior Designer for Nuance Interiors, based in Dallas, TX.  After graduating with her Bachelor’s in Interior Design from Baylor University, she worked for several years as a Design Associate at Marc-Michaels Interior Design. Most recently, for three years she served as an Interior Designer and Project Manager for A.Clore Interiors in Sanford, FL. She is a 2018 ASID Ones to Watch Winner and an ASID National Honors Medalist Recipient. As a member of the ASID Florida North Chapter Board, she has held the positions of Design Community Coordinator, Communications Director, President-Elect and President. She was appointed an FY2022 Chapter Support Team Advisor.

    Since founding her high-end residential interior design firm MLH Designs in 2003, Meridith Ranouil has won numerous awards including three Excellence in Design Ovation Awards for Residential Design and the Interior Design Society’s Designer of the Year award. Meridith’s award-winning projects range from urban apartments and boutiques to family homes and gourmet kitchens. Her work has been featured in Better Homes & Gardens, Kitchen and Bath Ideas, Dream Lofts & Condos, Arkansas Life and At Home in Arkansas, among other publications.

    Laura received her BS in Civil Engineering from Southern Methodist University and her MFA in Interior Design from Savannah College of Art and Design. After several years designing corporate projects, she founded Laura McDonald Enterprises and PLiNTH & CHiNTZ, the interior design blog and industry resource. For almost 10 years Stewart also managed METROCON Expo & Conference, the annual two-day event in Dallas focusing on the built environment. She has served on the ASID National Board, currently serves as the I.T. Chair for the Texas Chapter, sits on four interior design department advisory councils, and was the recipient of the 2009 NCIDQ National Louis S. Tregre Award.
